With echos of Leonardo DaVinci’s famous “Vitruvian Man”, the Vitruvius pattern models the ancient Roman architect Vitruvius’ description of perfect proportions in architecture and the human body. Vitruvius, part of our SPQR collection of stone mosaics, follows the golden rules of Vitruvian architecture: firmatis (durability), utilitas (utility) and venustatis (beauty). Its circular pattern reads as one circle overlapping another, which overlaps another, and so forth, similar to DaVinci’s drawing of the multi-limbed man.
